She was built in 1929 by Euskalduna for Sota y Aznar with the name Axpe-Mendi, being renamed in 1939 Monte Albertia. She was the fifth of a series of eight ships, with which Aznar made a technical leap, as they were its first motor vessels. They received the names Ayala-Mendi, Anboto-Mendi, Altube-Mendi, Aya-Mendi, Axpe-Mendi, Arnabal-Mendi, Araya-Mendi and Artza-Mendi, renamed in 1939 as Monte Ayala, Monte Amboto, Monte Altube, Monte Almanzor, Monte Albertia, Monte Arnabal, Monte Aralar and Monte Abril respectively. She was scrapped in Bilbao in 1967.
